Update on State-Owned Enterprise Investment Overseas and in Canada

According to Chinese media, 70% of the country’s total outbound foreign direct investment (OFDI) is from state-owned enterprises, valued at RMB4.9 trillion (C$970 billion).

The China Institute at the University of Alberta’s China-Canada Investment Tracker’s database records 88% of total Chinese OFDI into Canada as coming from SOEs. These SOEs have invested US$53 billion (C$56 billion), out of a total US$60 billion coming from all Chinese sources.

The Xinhua article stated that, since 2011, SOE overseas assets have had an annual growth rate of 16.4%.
